Sd.Kfz. 141/2 - Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf. N (L)
By Franco Fusco
By the summer of 1943 the Panzer III was inadequate for its role. As the Panzer IV was up gunned with the 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/43 from 1942 a large number of 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 become available for the Panzer III.
From June 1942 roughly 700 Panzer III N were produced or converted from J, L and M models.
In Normandy, there was a limited number of Panzer III N in the official inventory of German Divisions, furthermore, outside of the official inventory, there were Panzer III J, L, M and N that were used until the last days of the war on the Western Front.
The Panzer III N proved an excellent troop support tank, and this model represent a PzIII N based on the L version (with 447 produced was by far the largest existing version).
The Bundle will allow you to have on your table the Panzer III N in 28mm scale without unit and tactical markings and can be built with Schürzen, introduced on tanks built from August 1943. Six alternative turret skirts with (conjectural) Tank Numbers are provided while optional parts will allow to customize your models. Alternative parts are provided for both Wehrmacht and SS Panzer Division present in Normandy in 1944:
- 21st Panzer Division
- 116th Panzer Division
- 130th Panzer Lehr Division
- 10th SS Panzer Division Frundsberg
- 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend
The bundle consists of 3 sheets for the tank, 1 sheet with alternative pieces and 8 sheets for the instructions. To build the Panzer III you will need to print 3 or 4 single face A4 sheets.
Once downloaded, the sheets can be printed as often as you like, which means you can build any number of Panzers very cheaply.
You will need scissors, a craft knife, glue, 160 g/sm (recommended weight) paper for the model, all of which are described in the included how-to section.
The sheets are laid down in A4 format. Print your sheets at “fit to page” setting (Adobe Acrobat) onto A4 paper and US legal sized paper, on US letter size will print at 93%. You can, of course, print the PzIII N in any scale you chouse, making it extremely flexible in this respect.
