Collection: Renaissance Period

& the Italian Wars

The Italian Wars were a series of conflicts that took place between 1494 and 1559, primarily between France and Spain, but also involving other European countries. The wars were fought over control of Italy, and resulted in the Spanish Habsburgs dominating Italy and shifting power from Italy to northwestern Europe.

The  Landsknechts were a group of mercenary soldiers from the Holy Roman Empire who fought in many European wars from the 15th to the 17th centuries. They were known for their distinctive look, high-quality equipment, and combat prowess.
They were armed with pikes, halberds, swords, and arquebuses.

Their Battle Cry was: No Money, No Landsknechts!
