Model by Franco Fusco
This model is based on no specific historical vessel and is intended to represent one of the many auxiliary vessels that served on the Nile as patrol boat, transport and support vessel. She can be used for both the 1884-1885 campaign (included “the river dush” of 24-28 January 1885, the attempt to rescue General Gordon) and the 1896-1899 campaign.
The Bundle will allow you to have on your table a small steamer and her crew, wonderfully illustrated by Peter Dennis. Three crews (figures in 23 different poses) are available and consists of British and Egyptian sailors and two Mahdist figures for a captured vessel, which include gunners to substitute the ones offered in other bundles. The model has enough deck space to accommodate ordnance and troops offered in the “Empire of Dust” and “Sand of the Prophet” bundles.
The sides have been designed to provide cover to kneeling troops, additionally the bundle includes 4 sheets for optional improvised defence, consisting of two different styles of wooden planks, metal plates and a gun shed, to be cut and customized by the makers. The sides, decks, wheelhouses and protections included in the bundle can be combined to build countless different looking vessels to represent patrol boats, gunboats or transport.
NOTES:
The bundle consists of 13 sheets, to be printed on 100 g/sm, 120 g/sm and 160 g/sm (suggested) paper, and 10 sheets for the instructions.
Once downloaded, the sheets can be printed as often as you like, which means you can build any number of Steamboats very cheaply.
To make this model you will need to print from 3 to 5 single face A4 sheets.
You will need 1 or 2 A4 1mm card (I recommend finn board/wood pulp board).
You will also need scissors, a craft knife, a metal ruler, glue, cereal box type card, light card, cocktail sticks, pins and brush pens of various colours (sepia, grey, etc…) to touch up the parts. Fast drying, strong PVA glue, slow setting repositionable liquid glue or glue stick.
The sheets are laid down in A4 format. Print your sheets at “fit to page” setting (Adobe Acrobat) onto A4 paper and US legal sized paper, on US letter size will print at 93%.
You can, of course, print the Steamboat and its crew in any scale you choose, making it extremely flexible in this respect.
