A Torii is a traditional Japanese gate that marks the threshold between the secular and the sacred and could be find at the start of a path leading to a shrine, crossing the torii the visitor enters a purified, spiritually significant area.

Torii were mainly made of wood, painted vermillion and black. In its simpler form it consists of two upright pillars (hashira) topped by a horizontal beam (kasagi) and a second beam beneath it (nuki).

While not representing any specific Torii, I drew free inspiration from the Inari and Hachiman styles when designing this model.

Notes

This is a FREE DOWLOAD!!
The Bundle will allow you to have on your table a Torii in 28mm scale.

You can choose between two classic stiles: Inari and Hachiman. The bundle consists of a sheet for the model to be printed on paper from 100 g/sm to 160 g/sm weight, and three sheets for the instructions.

Once downloaded, the sheets can be printed as often as you like, which means you can build any number of TORII very cheaply.

You will need scissors, a craft knife, a metal ruler, glue, paper of your choice (100 to 160 g/sm), 1mm card (I recommend finn board/wood pulp board). You will also need and brush pens of various colours (sepia, grey, etc…) to touch up the parts, all of which are described in the included how-to section.

The sheets are laid down in A4 format. Print your sheets at “fit to page” setting (Adobe Acrobat) onto A4 paper and US legal sized paper, on US letter size will print at 93%.

You can, of course, print the TORII in any scale you choose, making it extremely flexible in this respect.
